In many countries around the world, Americans conjure all of kinds of images. The spectrum is as diverse as we are. We are definitely a melting pot of truth, courage, can-do (that often may look like ego, I’m sure), compassion, love, heart, perseverance, and so much more.
I’ve always believed that people get what they are. Like the old story of the person walking to a new town who comes up on an old man on the road leading to the town, and asks, “How are the people in this town?” The old man says, “Well, how were the people where you used to live?” The person says, “Oh, the people keep to themselves and are not interested in others.” The old man replies, “Well, the people in this town will likely be the same.” A little way down the road, another person comes upon the old man, and asks, “How are the people in this town?” The old man says, “Well, how were the people where you used to live?” The person replies, “Oh, they are open and friendly and happy to help out.” Then the old man replies, “Well, the people in this town will likely be the same.”
And so it is… wherever you go, there you are. To be truly free, be the love you are, open your heart, and that’s what you’ll find.
I have always felt an undeniable connection to the American Spirit – our country was built on a vision and a dream of what is possible when people unite for something greater. I feel that even though we don’t always hit the mark, there’s an earnestness to our endeavors…that this Spirit is what America is all about and that this Spirit is what connects us to the Oneness of All, where anything, truly, is possible. Open your heart, be free and see what is truly possible within you as All That Is.
