I picked up a three-year old issue of Texas Monthly (remnants of the vision board extravaganza) and casually leafed through it. I landed at a page full of sepia tones (I learned later by visiting the photographer’s site that it was actually a special type of photography called tin type) and a weathered face looking back at me. On the page next to it…No. 14 Josh Allen…Double Horn Ranch.

This ad copy and accompanying photographs, was commissioned by Frost Bank and created by Robb Kendrick as a tribute to today’s (well, three years ago, anyway) working cowboys.

It said…

Two things, Josh says, makes cowboying just about the best thing in the world: tradition and way of life. It’s not an 8-to-5 job. It’s a calling, unlike any other. Nobody watches you. Nobody supervises you. Nature sets your schedule. And you depend on yourself to do your work the best you can.

“I live the life that people dream about. I don’t take any day for granted. I know at the end of the day what I’ve done and if I’ve done right.”

I read that and I thought, “Wow, I’m a cowboy, too!” It reminded me of a spirit poem I wrote years ago…my spirit moves with the energy of a thousand wild horses. Perhaps I’m a cowgirl. :)

We are always calling ourselves home…

I want to be a cowboy

This photo isn’t by Robb Kendrick, but his site is a great place to check out his artwork.
