I remember meeting Louise Hay back in 2008. I stepped up to the counter, and as I did, I thought of all of the lives that she has touched with her wisdom. Before I knew it, I was in a tsunami of energy – gratitude, thankfulness and love. The energy had nowhere to go to escape my body other than to stream out of my eyes in the form of tears. I couldn’t stop crying although I did not feel sad at all. This woman has dedicated her life to improving the lives of others. And, this book is no different other than she has teamed up with Life Coach Extraordinaire, Cheryl Richardson. What could be better than Louise Hay? Of course! Last night Ellany Cevan joined me for Queen of Dreams Radio. We laughed so hard, and had a great time talking about stepping into dreams.
This morning I woke up thinking about last weekend when Ellany and Brandon, her husband, were over. We had been laughing SO HARD thinking about how we all used to dress. We walked back in time to high school and talked about wearing Guess Jeans, M&B, whatever was ‘hot’ at the time. Ellany and I had shared a stint of “Madonna” and had hit the bangle bracelets and bows in our hair. Oh, and before that, remember Olivia Newton John, “Let’s Get Physical”? Oh my, I had just become an athlete and was totally strutting around school with a headband (matching my sweats and shirt, of course!) Then, later I was off to be a preppy, sporty tennis player honor roll girl – ala Square Pegs, if you will.
Mark said I looked like a Go-Go girl, and Brandon, who is much younger than the rest of us, said, “What’s that?” We all cracked up laughing – I mean, seriously laughing so hard that my sides ached. Okay, yes, I did get pulled into the Belinda Carlisle look for a bit, but that’s kind of what I already looked like anyway!
After about an hour of telling story after story of the fashion faux pas, the fashions we would rather not remember and how ‘cool for school’ we all thought we were, we had tears rolling down our faces because of laughing so hard.
I am so grateful for friends and to be able to laugh so easily.
Today, I’m wearing black ‘walking shorts’ – I haven’t worn walking shorts since high school when I was all ‘matchy-matchy’ and had every color of the rainbow walking shorts with matching penny loafers (red anyone?) and corduroy or hounds tooth jackets to boot. And guess what kind of shoes I caught myself wearing today? You guessed it… black penny loafer slide-ons!
No wonder I feel 16 again! Laughter, friends, fashion, life… that’s what is important at 16!
these are CUTE!

We are back from vacation and lo and behold we came back and the weather is A-MAZING here! It is 82 degrees this morning! Yeah baby!
As we drove through the cornfields of Ohio, I wished we could take the stillness and the cooler weather home with us. Ah, looks like we did. ![]()
So many gems popped in over the vacation. I made many notes and will be blogging these in the next few weeks. Chance is such a great inspiration for blog topics!
When we came home, he asked me how he could make a logo for a game he is building. He had all kinds of ways of describing how he wanted me to help him.
Things like… Where can I find a place for good logos online (this is how he has created most of his creations in the past – taking something pre-existing and changing it). I want it to be big, but not too big. I want it to be bright, but not too bright. I need a picture of a red arch, but I can’t find one. He asked originally for a logo with a transparent background, and I told him that was really easy to create, and I would be happy to help him do it. This would be his first opportunity to create from a blank page.
As we sat on the couch with the laptop on my lap, he started dictating what he wanted.
“First, I want a big red arch.” So, I drew one and before I could barely get it on the screen, he said, “I want it thinner!” So, I made the changes. “I want it taller, much taller!” Then he said (again before I barely got the last change finished), “It needs to be CENTERED, perfectly in the MIDDLE!”
I cracked a smile before saying, “Hey, I can only go so fast, give me a minute!”
Then we moved on to the typefaces. We only have 1000+, so I’m flipping through them quickly asking questions to help him determine what he wants, “Do you want it to look chunky? How do you want people to feel when they see it? What makes sense here for your game…is it fantasy, adventure? Can you feel each of they typefaces have their own energy?”
We tried five or six, and again, immediately he would respond, “Ugh! No!” or “Mmmm, that’s not right, let’s try another one.”
Welcome to the world of intuitive creating where people ‘sense’ their way through things. I know this route all too well. I have an idea in my head, but I don’t know ‘how’ to do anything until I feel my way through it.
With a finger on his chin and he inspected each typeface, he kept looking at me and how I moved around the computer program. I pointed out how to get to different tools and how they work, saying out loud everything I was doing on the computer.
We landed on a font in the “G”s… Go-Go Big is the name of the typeface. Then we moved on to colors… and the shape that would contain the entire logo. “Darker aqua.” “No, lighter aqua. Ugh! No, go back to darker aqua.”
I’m pretty fast, so as quick as he could come up with what he liked, I could easily change to match his preferences. In less than half an hour the logo was complete and he was swooning, “I LOVE IT, MOM!!! Isn’t it GREAT? It’s EXACTLY what I wanted!” Ah, gotta love creation.
At one point, he looked up at me as I was smiling with every change, and said, “Am I driving you crazy with these changes?” And I replied, “No, Chance. I can deal with someone who knows what they want and are just fine-tuning to get there. NOT knowing what you want is like trying to use a fishing pole in the ocean. It takes a LOOOOONG time. You are great. I love that you really do know what you want.”
The next day, he started to ask some cryptic questions such as, “How do you get something to be like something else?” and “What would make a logo look like a rainbow?”
I said, “Remember when you were directing me with your logo yesterday? Remember how you just knew and we flew through the creation of it? Well, that’s what happens when you know what you want. It sounds like what you are doing is asking how to get to something you want to copy…what does that mean for you?”
He thought about it for a minute, and he said, “I want the star on my logo to look like horizontal lines, like this logo over here.” He pointed to a logo from a friend’s game, and said, “This is what I like.”
Then I said, “Okay, I can show you how to do that in about 2 seconds. And, can you see how much easier it is to identify what you want and then move toward it than to ask a bunch of questions that go all over the place? Now, we are on track and about 2 seconds away from what you really want!”
We made the change and off he went.
That night, I noticed him asking again questions about how to get around something rather than moving directly toward it. I found it fascinating and it definitely had me pulled in energetically, and I began to wonder… does everyone do this?
I realized, most people are working around their current experience rather than moving directly toward what they want. I wondered… how am I doing this?
As I watched a movie with Mark and Chance later that night, I realized, most of us grow up with the ‘work around’ mindset. How can I get around this thing I don’t like? How can I avoid this? How can I make this kind of like that, but not exactly?
What we need is just the awareness to focus in or zero in on what we want.
This is a skill. You can learn to do it. Just like Chance. I realized I do this all the time for clients, but I don’t always demand it from myself. It takes a moment to consider… what do you want? Say it out loud. Practice this. Just define it. The more you do this, the easier life will get in so many ways! From manifesting to communicating with loved ones to sharing for your job. It is so much easier when YOU know what you want because most others DON’T!
Now, I know this is a rambling blog, but this is an example of this.
I went to the library after all of this happened. Here’s the conversation:
Me: Could you tell me why this book has been ‘shipped’ for 21 days? (Where’s my focus… the question I am asking is… why has this been shipped for 21 days? What I WANT is for this book to be at MY library pick-up location so I can check it out.)
Librarian: Well, it looks like you requested it from another branch and we shipped it over there (She’s just answering my question.)
Me: Why would it go to a branch other than my hold library location? (Now, I’m way off from what I WANT and off into how does the library work?! – which I really don’t care about at all!)
Librarian: I don’t know. You can call them.
Me: (Thinking to myself… I don’t want to call them, I just want this book to come here so I can check it out – at last! at least I’m thinking about what I want now) Okay, do you really think it is still there after three weeks?
Librarian: You know, I can just have them send it back over here for you (Ah! She picked up on what I really wanted… my conscious self is about 2 steps behind! LOL)
Me: Oh! Could you? That would work great for me. Thank you!
Librarian: Sure, my pleasure!
This librarian, like all of our librarians, would have moved mountains for me had I just asked her for what I really wanted, but I started out without a focus… Or rather, I started out wondering what happened to this book because most of the books ‘ship’ and then they show up on ‘hold’ at my library and then I have a few days to pick them up. But, knowing what I wanted moved me directly like a VIP escort to what I wanted to create. This skill is especially important for creating intentions all day long as you move through your day. So, for example, each time you change your activity, you create a new intention and then you and the energy moves you to what you are creating!
We’ve all heard, “Know what you want” and yet I discovered the last few days… I don’t always lead with that! Now I can practice more, too!
This is one dish that will have people wagging their tongues for more. If you take it to a 4th of July picnic, get ready for the fireworks!
Yes, I have reformed myself on sugar, but that doesn’t mean I can’t share the MOST WONDERFUL COBBLER in the WORLD with you who could eat it!
WARNING: This food could and probably will become addictive. You may dream about it. You may have visions in your waking hours about it. It may even hunt you down in the middle of a sweet daydream!
Blackberry Cobbler from page 178 of the 1976 edition of the Betty Crocker Cookbook:)…with Miss Debbie’s edits:)
1 cup sugar
4 cups fresh blackberries (I use the one’s frozen in the bag from the freezer section and they work fine)
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 cup all purpose flour
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. almond extract
3 T. butter – cut in small pieces
Milk
Love xoxo
Heat oven to 350 degrees. Put frozen blackberries in bowl. Pour sugar and flour over them. Add lemon juice, salt and almond extract. Mix thoroughly. Put in pie plate or shallow pan….spread pieces of butter over the blackberry mixture. Top with a Pillsbury Pie Crust (the kind in the red box:) – there are 2 pie crusts per box but you only need one – unroll the pie crust and lay on top of the blackberry mixture and tuck it in around the edges….intended to look more rustic than picture perfect pie crust. Brush milk lightly over top of crust.
Take a sharp knife and make slits in top of crust. Bake for 45 minutes to an hour ….depending on how brown you like it.
Enjoy!!!!:)
P.S. You could probably substitute any fruit you want, but man, if you like blackberries…. oh my! ![]()
